Lets Talk About Rogues

Posted in General, Questing, WoW tagged , , , , , , at 7:21 pm by Andrea

dpsMy rogue is currently level 75. I had never been one for melee classes, but I am enjoying her. I admittingly am NOT a rogue expert, as I am still learning the class. I however hope to play her equally as well as my other classes, and maybe get to run with her every now and again. I am completely noob to the rogue, still learning all the ins and outs… but at level 74 I pulled over 1k in an instance… which isn’t bad. For now, I am just leveling her up, mostly through questing but lately Ive been pulling some instances, and I also took a good hard look at her spec. I knew I didn’t know what I was doing, so I hit up a senior rogue in our guild, and asked his advice… here’s what we came up with.

Poofnstab is running 15/51/0 (eventually it will be 20/51/0 when she finished leveling) Lets take a look at her spec thus far:

Tier 1

Improved Sinister Strike (2/2): Reduces the energy cost of Sinister Strike by 5. Being as this ability is rogue bread and butter (unless you are sub, then its hemo) I figure a little less energy cost is a good thing.

Duel Wield Specialization (5/5): This increases the damage done by my offhand weapon by 50%. Since combat is about sustaining damage, this is a good one to pick up.

Tier 2

Improved Slice and Dice (2/2): Increases  the duration of Slice and Dice by50%. I use Slice and Dice on every fight, when soloing I only put up one or two points before I pop this and it lasts me the whole fight. For a boss fight putting up all five points will last you quite a while.

Percision (5/5): Increases chance to hit with weapon and poision attacks by 5%. This helps with that whole hit rating noise Im still working on.

Tier 3

Endurance (2/2): Reduces the cooldown of Sprint and Evasion by 1 min, and increases stamina by 4%. Adds a little surivability for when you go aggro happy.

Tier 4

Aggression (5/5): Increases the damage of my Backstab, Sinister Strike and Eviscerate abilities by 10%. I don’t really use backstab, but two out of three isn’t bad.

Tier 5

Blade Flurry (1/1): Increases attack speed by 20% and also hits a second mob. I usually pop this ability after getting Slice and Dice up and follow it up with Murder Spree when there is more then one mob around. Watch the numbers fly.

Sword Specialization (5/5): Gives a 5% chance to get an extra swing in on your mob. Now I just like swords. Some people prefer maces, or daggers. I’m a sword kinda girl, and thats all it is.

Tier 6

Weapon Expertise (2/2): Increase Expertise by 10. I’m still learning about this attribute, and will write more on it at a later time.

Blade Twisting (2/2): Increases damage of Sinister Strike and Backstab by 10%. Also has a 10% chance to daze your target. Again, I don’t tend to use Backstab, but Sinister Strike is constantly going off, so that 10 percent is worth it. Also, an occasional daze doesn’t hurt.

Tier 7

Vitality (3/3): Increases energy regeneration by 10%. Rogues are always out of energy, this helps lesson how often I recieve the “I can’t do that yet” error message.

Adrenaline Rush (1/1): Increases energy regeneration by 100% for 15 seconds. Great for those extended boss fights.

Tier 8

Combat Potency (5/5): Gives your offhand autoswings a 20% chance to regen 15 more energy… this is starting to sound like Mp5 right? Well thats the idea, except rogues don’t get to have mana pots.

Tier 9

Unfair Advantage (2/2): Gives a chance when you dodge an attack to strike back with 100% of your weapon damage. Yeah… that is a little bit unfair. I reccomend you read the comments on this ability under the link… its uses are truly entertaining.

Surprise Attacks (1/1): Finishing moves cannot be dodged, and gives Sinister Strike, Backstab, Shiv, Hemo, and Gouge abilities a 10% damage increase. Those little increases to Sinister Strike are really starting to add up now.

Savage Combat (2/2): Increases Attack Power by 4% and physical damage taken by mobs by 2% when they have poision effects on them. All in all, a more damage please kind of talent.

Prey on the Weak (5/5): Increases the chance to crit by 20% when the target has less health then you (as a percentage). This means if you kill it faster than it kills you, you’re gonna whoop his ass with some high numbers.

Tier 10

Murder Spree (1/1): Allows you to step behind multiple mobs hitting them every .5 seconds with both weapons until five hits are finished. You can also do this to a single target. I usually pop this with Blade Flurry when there are multiple mobs around. Its really a quite nice talent.

Tier 1

Evisercate (3/3): Increases damage done by Evisercate by 15%. I use evisercate a lot when Im soloing, and as part of a rotation for bosses, so really, this is used often.

Malice (5/5):  Increases crit strike chance by 5%. Rogues are well known for popping out of no where and killing a mob before they even realize whats happening. Crit is a major factor in this.

Tier 2

Ruthlessness (2/3): Gives finishing moves a 40% chance to add a combo point to the target. Always nice for getting started on the next rotation.

Tier 3

Lethality (5/5): Increases crit strike bonus of all combo moves by 30%. In the previous tree we worked on the direct damage, on this tree, we’re grabbing some crit.

Obviously, that isnt all the points, but its as far as Ive gotten. I imagine I’ll continue down the Assassination tree and grab up some poision talents before Im done. Ive tested out this spec, and recently replaced a lot of gear… even going so far as to craft my new epic engineering goggles. My unbuffed attack power sits at 2168 and my crit strike is at 26.34%. I believe this is decent for a 75 rogue, but I don’t know what final numbers should look like yet. I’m going to have to start focusing on my hit more as I get closer to 80… but I imagine that will come on its own in time. Hope this helps any nublet rogues like me out there!

Spider Wing Cleared

Posted in General, Guild, Raids, WoW tagged , , , , , , , at 6:21 pm by Andrea

I’ve been slacking on the posting. Been having some RL medical stuff come up and I’ve been extremely distracted by it. However, recently I got to see a REAL rogue and the kind of damage it can do, I leveled engineering up to 422, I fished my heart out for some coins and got the Silver in the City achievement, and I picked up my very last recipe from Dalaran, leaving me 14 short of my 160. There’s the tidbits, now on to the good stuff.

wowscrnshot_010609_184430As I mentioned, my group of server hopping guild searching refugees friends recently found a home in the guild Damage Control. Things have been awesome, and all in all I don’t think we’ve ever been so widely accepted before. Everyone seems to be happy and that leaves me a lot more time to worry about myself. Yesterday, was regular raid day for the guild. They’d been doing 1 group for 10 man Naxx. Last night, thanks to the addition of two uber awesome healers, (ahem) we were able to get two off the ground. Group 2, my group, had about half a raid full of nooblets, including myself, to Naxx, but that didn’t stop us. With only one wipe on the last boss in the Spider Wing, we managed to clear them all with EASE even, and started down the plague wing before calling it a night. Tonight the guild has Heroic OS, lets hope we can get him totally on our own.

Time For Some Gear Grinds

Posted in General, Real Life, WoW tagged , , , , , , , at 7:09 pm by Andrea

Pallylust has achieved 1660 healing, thanks to the help of my awesome guidie, Gahrie, who gifted me with three crafted epics. With the new gear in tow, I took on Heroic Violet Hold and cleared it with no deaths, netting me two new achievements. I then decided to take a crack at Heroic Nexus with Lady Jess to help me heal. It was late and we were being sloppy and failed to drop the arcane guy whos name escapes me at this very moment. We’ll try again today likely. Either way, its occured to me that I need to set an outline of where to go to get some gear drops. I have been randomly running regulars, and thus far, nothing has dropped that is really of any use to me. So I’ll be conducting some research soon.  You can look forward to that post. Also, I still run my alts, they haven’t been neglected, but are still in the leveling process, I’ll be making posts for my rogue and death knight soon.

Finally, Ive been considering doing some interviews of my own guildies and their take on their respective classes and what makes WoW so enjoyable for them… so occasionally and starting soon, you’ll be seeing those here too. Sorry for the lack of anything really educational lately, I’ve been on the grind to gear up to heal runs and raids for my own guild, and with Christmas coming and final projects due soon for my college courses, Im having less time to spit out some useful information. I promise to do better soon. Please look forward to it. Happy Holidays everyone, and the new posts will be going up soon!

Vini Vidi Vici!

I haz A Bucket

I haz A Bucket

My charatcer’s move to their new server with Fimly’s, Lady Jess, and their guild Mythos is complete and successful. So naturally, I had to break in my toons to the new server. I took Husband’s Shaman, Juicepig into good old Deadmines for a run on my rogue. There was autoswinging, there was dying (for the mobs) and there was plenty of boxes to sit in. Hubby walked out with lots of shiny new upgrades for his shaman, though.

Poofnstab stealthed into SV and got her second key frag without once ever breaking her stealth. I was proud of that. Stealthing makes me nervous. It’s like I suddenly develop a twitch or something. Anyways, I was so set that it had been easy, that I went and tried to stealth Arc as well. I got all the way to the key frag guy, but couldn’t down him before a VW would kill me…. I tried three times, then did a run with Fimly’s and other guildies. Good times. Got the key frag, as did three others, too. Now, on to Old Hills

My warlock duo went from level 24 to level 29 thanks to the help of the Hubby and his priestly clears of SM. Oh man its so much fun to watch a priest pretend to be a mage. He just plowed through mobs with his holy nova. Was such a pretty sight.

So, WotLK, November 13th. Im not keen on this really. It just feels too soon. Perhaps I sound insane but it does. So… can I get the warlocks done and a second set well on their way before then? We’ll see.

What A Lucky Day

Posted in General, WoW tagged , , at 5:32 pm by Andrea

Wow, yesterday was a day for loots for sure. I ended up with 7new items yesterday. And I was also able to finally get my head enchant all for the rogue. It was interesting that it worked out that way, but now with all the new stuff I only have two more items to replace. Which means I am done with my PvP grind for now. All in all I walked out with:

All in all a very lucky day, considering the Gruul’s and Mag’s runs were PuG’s. I feel like I should have bought a lotto ticket or something. Either way all that is left to replace is the current trinket with one from H. MgT (The Shard of Contempt) and the neck with the one from SSO Rep. Hopefully both will come fairly quickly and I can be done with this gear grind. So far we’re above 1700 AP and right near or at 30% crit. I’m told that its a great start. Eventually I’ll want to replace the PvP gear with PvE, though. Soon as the rogue is all done and the gold farm starts Im sure I’ll be hating the game even more, but once I get it in my head I’m gonna do something, I go do it. So here goes nothing.

Come On Now, Its Not That Hard

Posted in Raids, WoW tagged , , , , at 12:51 am by Andrea

This is what I get I guess for being fairly well known, and having a tanking toon. Today a few in my guild were involved in a PuG Gruul’s Run. Not a big deal there’s tons of those going all the time, so I thought I’d give a hand and thus was invited on my rogue. I was excited for you see, she of course could benefit from the DST like every other melee in the game. So I pop in, raid is filled up, we buff and go. The count down is started and everyone appears to be in place.

The pull goes and is successful. Myself and the other melee take down the healer. It takes us longer then it should because it would seem I’m the only one interrupting heals. After just a minute or two I hear that we lost a tank, then we lost HKM’s tank as well. That’s a wipe. Immediately PuGs start leaving. Now that’s the part that bothers me. You get in on a PUG (key word there), don’t expect it to be flawless! Besides that if everyone knows their roles it shouldn’t be THAT hard. If you don’t know, just ask. I refer to this chart:

Raid Group 101

Raid Group 101

Btw I have no idea where that picture came from. If its yours, then speak up and I’ll be happy to give credit. But anyways, so we lose a good chunk of people, including a tank. Soooo I have to swap over to my Paladin, Pallylust. Once on her we rebuild the group this time with a few more guildies and get back underway. Low and behold one shot all the way. I even Main Tanked Gruul without an issue at all. Pretty flawless really. Why the PuG couldn’t pull it off is beyond me though.

I was feeling pretty proud of myself. Pallylust of course does not need anything from the place except maybe some tokens for her Ret Set PvP gear. So Im just jumping around not paying attention until I realize what is up to be rolled on. Yup, you guessed it, the DST. I’m not usually frustrated by this sort of thing, but today, I wanted to cry. Added on top of all the real life crap going on, it was like the cherry on top. At least though, it went to another guildie who won with a roll of 96. Grats to him.

In the meantime, I’ll not be doing any more PuGs for a while.

Im Not Dead!

Posted in General, Real Life, WoW tagged , , , , at 5:59 pm by Andrea

“Haaavvvvvveeeee you heard the news that you’re dead? No one ever had much nice to say, I think they never liked you anyways…..”

Sorry I couldn’t help myself. If you don’t know it, the song is Dead! by My Chemical Romance. Check it out on youtube or something.

Anyways, Real life hit like a truck and to make things more complicated my baby girl decided my computer was thirsty for some Mountain Dew. It still has not recovered, but I’ve managed to throw together a backup that can sustain my WoW addiction. We are now three weeks into my husband’s six week deployment and I am utterly exhusted. Of course there’s been drama, some tears, and a pact to not actually tie the kids up and throw them in the closet. Somehow though the house remains relatively clean and no one was arrested the day my family came for a visit, though there were some narrow escapes.

Now everything is settled down and we are still a few weeks out from Garen’s return, so I think we can take a few moments to take a deep breath and realize we can and will surivive this, even if we don’t want to.

So in recent weeks Ive resigned from raiding in my husband’s absence. I just don’t have the awesome multitasking ability of screaming at children to be quiet so I can learn this boss strat. I will pick up on it again once Garen returns. This has left a lot of time to farm and play alts. I’ve been PvPing like mad on my rogue, I even respec’d her to Shadowstep. I know yuk it up, But I tell ya its saved my butt more times then I can count. I like using it to gain some yardage on running the flag in WSG.

Ive also been running a lot of Heroic Magister’s Terrace for the shard of contempt. It dropped once but I lost it to a DPS warrior. Ah well we’ll continue to run for it. I also have done a couple of Karas but believe it or not, not a SINGLE peice of melee gear has dropped on either of those runs. It makes me want to cry inside.

I still want to reach the gold cap before WotLK and I hope I have enough time left over to level one more alt. However without my main machine running I am without my UI, my pretty mods, and I cannot multibox on this machine, so it’s on the back burner for now. So PvP farming and gold farming it is. Wish me luck.

I hope that I have corrected all this enough to continue to blog again for you all. I’m sorry I left you hanging but I am sure with time, you will come to forgive me. Now if you’ll excuse me there’s a hook in the closet with my son’s name on it.

The Ding Hammer Falls Again

Posted in General, WoW tagged , , , at 4:15 pm by Andrea

Well the other night my Rogue hit 70. She’s my 6th. Makes me feel pretty wasteful of my life actually but having a rogue is good fun. I immediately did the 40 eye of the storms I still needed for her season 2 weapons. Of course we lost every single one (horribly). How can alliance suck that badly at pvp? I guess that’s a rant for another night. Anyways, her pretty new weapons made a HUGE difference! She put out some bigger hits which is always nice.

I took her into Kara for the first time in her level 60 blues and 70 greens. She didn’t fair horribly. She wasn’t last on the damage meter but dang close, and the Pally tank who was solo tanking beat me out in damage. I have a lot of work to do for her before she’ll be of any real use. I intend to use her mostly to farm with but would be nice if she could also backup on raids. She is my first melee class, learning to get behind stuff so you don’t get clobbered is an interesting change as I’ve always been ranged or the tank or healer. I’m sure I’ll adjust though.

Next up I plan to either reach the gold cap for the first time or work on those multiboxing hunters. Not sure which I’ll do though. Sorry for the no post in a while I’d had a little bit of a rough patch in that game we call life, but it appears everything is settled now. I hope to be back full force with some good articles for you all to enjoy. Thanks for sticking around with me. Much love to my readers!

As The Dust Settles…

Posted in WoW tagged , , , , , , , at 5:50 pm by Andrea

So I was gone for a few days from WoW and Blogging alike. I tried really hard to make sure we were all caught up in the daily life stuff so that my husband’s absence would be easier to manage. We did manage a lot but not everything I would have liked to. So far the children seem pretty good, but its only been an hour or so :P. LOL 1 hour down, forty days to go. Anyways, in the time I’ve been gone I noticed a few things went down in the WoW community, including

While I could probably say a hundred things about the list above I think I’ll just summarize since it seems enough has been said already. I actually dislike expansions. It makes me feel noob all over again, and when they drastically change one of my main characters it makes it that much more tiresome. My paladin is going to change, and I’ll adjust to it. Am I excited for it? Not really. I’ll go more into that at a later date. I could say the same thing about the Beta, except I am grateful for the occasional heads up so I can be less angry at the changes when they come. I wish I’d been present for the TNB live show, I’m sure it was good fun. I however was trying to spend some quality time with the husband and kids so we instead watched the series finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender together. The Achievements announcement sounds exciting though. I love little things like that and I’m certain I will shoot to get every single one I can.

Now that we’re past our summary of stuff I missed, I thought I’d share that my rogue has been level 68 for nearly two weeks now. I have no idea why I cant seem to just finish her off, but I will get on it asap now. Once she has her level, and some decent gear I’ll begin work on my next toon(s), the duel boxing hunters. Ive been toying with the idea of a shadow priest for some time now, but I have a holy one horde side. I’m just not sure I really want to respec her after all the work I put into crafting the gear she has. So I remain undecided about her. I really shouldn’t be thinking about this stuff at all until my rogue is finished though.

I did however log onto my warlock last night for a tiny bit. I left her about a year ago now on the old server as she was the GM of Infusion, and was constantly in Tell Hell. I somehow had thought that if I abandoned her for a year or so people would forget about me. Turns out they don’t. I logged in and was on no more then three minutes when three old guild mates gave me the standard “OMG ITS YOU” tell. I of course told them, “No its not, its just a figment of your imagination.” We chatted about content they’ve seen and they tell me how much they miss me and our guild. All in all polite conversation. A fourth eventually figured me out as well but his question was if I was coming back full time. Im not entirely sure what I wanna do. I love all my toons and now I feel like I need to pick a side.

I had logged on to Librasky to simply get her started on some SSO rep. When I left her oh so long ago, she was in near full season 2 gear. Now that’s the welfare stuff. Makes me sad. So I think I might start logging on in between the toons and get used to playing my lock again by doing her SSO dailies each day and that’s about it. Don’t tell anyone but I died twice trying to remember how to play her. Once the rogue is 70 I also plan to go on a crusade to hit the gold cap on at least one toon. Wish me luck on that.

Anyways that should catch us up to the present, I’m gonna go get started on a double rep grind and I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.
